It was the spring of 1984. Marc Cardinaux founded Building Material Specialties, Incorporated in a small warehouse space next to the Hillsboro Airport. There were a total of 3 employees, and for the most part sales and deliveries were handled during the day, and production was done during the evenings.
One year later, the company had outgrown the space, and moved to a new location at 3rd & Lincoln-in downtown Hillsboro, along with 3 more employees.
In 1990, the business had grown to the point that another facility was acquired, on 25th across from the Hillsboro Airport.
By 1996, additional space was required for the door division as well as the Specialties side of the business, and a single large facility was acquired just off 1st Avenue-still in Hillsboro. There are 40 employees now.
Many things have changed through the years at BMS, but the one thing that will never change is our commitment to meeting our customers needs- providing the right product at the right time, at a fair price.
