NAFTA Truck Route
This work specifically focuses on the movement of freight following the trade route from Laredo, TX to Kansas City, MO and then beyond into Canada. The video work places the audience on the road with the transport of cheap commodities manufactured by multinational companies using slave labor. By placing the spectator in a truck on the trade route, I hope to connect the buyer to the unfolding chain of events from the port of US entry to the retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. By shedding light on the NAFTA highway I hope to expose the loss of American jobs to out-sourcing, and environmental consequences such as the alterations of the land by building bigger ports and wider highways and increasing poor air quality by truck and freight train traffic.
