Stained Glass Windows

From the Chaplain’s Desk . . .

I am happy to report to you that, after consulting with some members of our community, I have chosen an artist to design and produce stained glass windows for our Chapel. At the beginning of the summer I contacted five art glass studios; four of those studios responded to my request for an interview. Of those four, one artist stood out as having an artistic sensibility that matched well with the architecture of our Chapel. Susan Obata, of Obata Studios, has agreed to take on the project.
Susan will be visiting here in the latter part of October. The standard procedure for designing stained glass begins with the artist's assessment of the site where the glass will be installed. After that, it usually takes a few months to complete a final design. Fabrication and installation require a further six to eight months.
At this time I cannot estimate the final cost of the project or the date of completion. I expect that I will have a better knowledge of these only after the final design is ready. The design for the windows will be put on display as soon as the artist has completed it. At that time I will ask for your financial support.
Although we are still months away from having a final design, I do want to give you some idea of what to expect. The primary criterion used to choose the artist for this project was artistic appropriateness. While the words "stained glass" tend to evoke mental images of gothic cathedrals, our Chapel isn't an example of gothic architecture. Our Chapel building is typical of structures built in the 1960's. It has a simple floor plan with clean, modern lines and only a few architectural details. It is my intention that the stained glass will reflect this modern aesthetic. Within a few months I hope to have the artist's renderings of the design for you to see. In the meantime, please continue to pray for a successful completion to our project.

Catholic Charities

iWait Program for Teens

Are you talking to your kids about Sex, Marriage, Relationships and the hope for their Future? If not, someone else is! The iWait Program of Catholic Charities is an Abstinence Until Marriage Education Program dedicated to Encouraging Healthy Choices for Teens and for Parents.
We are now scheduling Presentations for all Catholic Schools (Middle and High School), Youth groups, Clubs, Community Events and Ministry Fairs. iWait also features an iParent Presentation that helps parents open up the lines of conversation with teens. Scared? Don’t be. This generation of teens is amazing and they are screaming for the truth about their sexuality. Parents have the most influence over their kids, despite what the media may say. So, stay encouraged; you matter in your kid’s lives. Contact Mark Bromley at (813) 997-4983 or e-mail mbromley@pccpc.net and visit our website http://www.askmewhyiwait.com for more details.

Young Adult Activities

Christ The King Parish Young Adults

The Christ The King Young Adults (CTKYA) invite all persons between the ages of 18-39, single or married, to meet people, make friends, and practice and grow in the catholic faith.
Finding God’s Will for You - Join us as we read a spiritual classic by St. Francis de Sales together. Although written in the 17th century, there is nothing medieval about this text. The prose is modern, accessible, and the ideas and advice more fitting than ever. While the author doesn’t out and out tell you what God’s will is for you, he does show you what it’s not, as well as how to discover it yourself. Through practical and insightful writings, he shines a light on psychological motivations, rationalizations, and defenses, and carefully examines them in the rays of truth.
Date: Thursdays, beginning September 17
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Place: Christ The King, Mary Martha Hall, Rooms 204-205
Cost: $12
Sunset at the Beach On Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 5:00 pm, join us as we pray a little, play a little, talk a little, and simply hang out together as the sun goes down on beautiful Clearwater Beach. Save the date!
Helping Spirit FM Our next service project is at a radio station. Spirit FM 90.5, our Catholic radio station, needs our help! They’ve just moved their studios into a new building and have lots of tasks yet to be done. Please come lend a hand! Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Christ The King (meet at the entrance to Mary Martha Hall).

Stewardship Thought of the Week

Both widows in today’s readings gave all they had to the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to his promises.
