My Life with Cars

I was driving around my neighboorhood back in 1958 and saw my first 58 corvette.it was owned by a rich kid (16) and I was jealous. loved the fake hood louvers and the the extra chrome. I was 18 at the time and in the marine corps making a buck sgts pay 180 per month. I went to the san fernando drag strip and got to know tommy Ivo, and the early B&M organization. after my discharge I practically lived at the toulca and Van Nuys Bobs Big boys trying to meet women. Cruised Van Nuys Blvd and Hollywood Blvd. Never got it quite out of my system still go to hot august nights. Car people are crazy. I found corvettes again in 1994, as I was travelling three states for a living selling municipal fire dept. equiptment and contracting large fire fighting ARFF systems for hangers and loading racks. At night there was nothing to do, t.v. was boring, and I don't drink. So I would get out the Local paper and/or the Corvette/auto trader and go looking for cheeeep corvettes..I must have bought 15 or more, before the 2008 I own now. I would buy the good ones if they were cheap and fix the minor stuff If I was capable of drive them around for a while, get bored and sell for more and then go on the "hunt" again for something to do. A lot of people thought I was nuts...there are members of the club who swear I am...but I think I had fun. I had an operation and decided to change my m.o. I bought a dodge challenger 1970...joined cruisin north and found out for almost two years what a mistake that was!!!.  I was able to sell the dodge to a poor fool in Norway..MOPAR people are crazier than corvette people. I rejoined the club about 2 years ago, and am glad to be driving my 2008 with no regrets about anything. I am big and old the the car is hard to get in and out of....but I love it......Barry Sigal
