DWP is a do-it-yourself website builder. In less than an hour, without any specialized training (and without knowing HTML), you can have a simple website online, advertising your business to millions of people around the world. Then at your leisure you can refine it and add content and special effects.
You can do this because DWP uses pre-fabricated building blocks or templates. You select from dozens of choices to develop your own unique site. You customize your site by choosing colors and styles and adding your own unique text and pictures.
This website itself was created with DWP. Notice some of the many different types of pages that you can create with the available templates. The "Home Page" template is one of the simplest and was used to create both the home page and the page that you are reading now. Some of the other templates used in our site are the "Contact Us" template (contact information), the Calendar template (which creates an online calendar that you or your secretary can access from anywhere in the world wherever there is internet access), the "Page of Links" template, and the "Product Catalog" template (used in the "Money-Saving Tips," "Health Resources" and "Income Opportunities" pages; each item can include price and a picture, in addition to title and text).
Other available templates include "Pictures" (to create a photo album), "Discussion Index" and "Discussion Threads" (to create message boards or threaded discussions), "Folder List" and "Folder" (to store documents and files in a password-protected area for your associates at remote locations to share), "Conference Room" (enables real-time communication, including Chat, Internet Phone and Screen Sharing), "Send Message" (enables visitors to send messages and files), "Questions" (where you can post common questions with answers), "Product Index" and "Product Catalog" (the former is a list of Product Catalogs), and "About Us" (where you can describe your company).
You can use any or all of these modules to build your website. You can rename them and use them in any order (and you can rename them and rearrange them at will). They can be individually password-protected, if desired. They can even be made invisible, which is useful if your website is incomplete and you don't want the public to view the pages that are still under construction.
Pages are constructed by selecting the appropriate template and then filling in the blanks with your own text. You can use the default graphics or substitute your own photos, logos and other graphics. You can globally change the color and texture of the margins and even insert your own background graphic.
Your DWP website will have a totally professional appearance. Because I work with Big Planet, I have chosen to display the Big Planet header and footer on my website. This, however, is entirely optional. With DWP, unlike many so-called "free" websites, you do not have to give someone else free advertising space.
Although you don't need to know HTML to create or maintain your DWP website, you are free to add HTML to any of the text boxes for special effects. There is even an "HTML" template which allows you to insert anywhere in your website one or more pages of conventional HTML code (for example, if you already have an elaborate home page that you are loath to give up). Therefore you don't have to give up the flexibility of a custom-written HTML website, should you ever need it.
Using the catalog template, you can create an online catalog of your goods and services and include for each item a picture, a description and a price. The customer can send you his order by email, including credit card information. Advanced e-commerce options include a shopping cart, real-time automated credit card processing, and statistics.
