Abraham & Pearl Sasportas Photos - A few pictures of Al & Pearl's life together

Today is December 18, 1999. Fifty years ago Pearl Einhorn married Abraham Sasportas. If they were living today we would all be celebrating their 50th anniversary. Regina Lazerow introduced the couple. Only months after meeting they were married. Please let me quote the wedding article found in the local New London paper.

The headline reads " PEARL EINHORN BECOMES BRIDE AT HARTFORD ". " Miss Pearl Einhorn, daughter of Samuel I. Einhorn of 31 Morgan Street and the late Mrs. Einhorn, and Abraham Albert Sasportas, son of Mr & Mrs. David Sasportas of Wilson, Conn., were married Sunday afternoon at Agudas Achim synagogue, Hartford. The single ring ceremony was performed by Rabbi Abraham Avrutick. The matron of honor was Mrs. Russell Cohen of 31 Morgan Street, sister of the bride and Benjamin Sasportas of Hartford was the best man for his brother. Dorothy Ellyn Cohen, neice of the bride, was flower girl. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The bridegroom was escorted by his parents. The bride wore a candlelight satin gown with a fitted bodice, Peter Pan collar with seed pearl trim and long fitted sleeves and flowing train. She had a full length illusion veil with Chantilly lace trim and seed pearl crown. She carried a white orchid on a Bible. The maid of honor had a gown of turquoise taffeta with portrait neckline, and a dusty rose tulle headpiece falling from a halo tiara. She carried a bouquet of roses and baby's breath. The flower girl wore a powder blue taffeta gown with pink tiara and carried an old fashioned nosegay. During the ceremony Miss Rachel Saul of Hartford sang 'Because'. Morris Einhorn's orchestra played during the ceremony and for the reception. The bridegroom's mother wore a pearl gray gabardine suit with pink and black accessories and an orchid corsage. A reception took place in the vestry of the synagogue and was attended by 300 guests from New London, Hartford, New York and New Jersey.Following a wedding trip to New York, the couple will reside at 94 Clark Street, Hartford. The bridegroom is a graduate of Hartford High and served in the army during the last war. He is employed by the Underwood Typewriter Co., Hartford. The bride, a graduate of Williams Memorial Institute, is employed at the internal revenue office in this city. She plans to transfer to the Hartford office. "

Maybe the 300 guests is an exaggeration for the caterers bill includes:

  • 109 guests @ $4.50
  • 11 children @ $ 3.50
  • a total of 120 guests

The bartender earned $12 for the reception!!

Pearl Einhorn was 28 years old at the wedding and Abraham Sasportas was 36 years old. They were only married for 28 beautiful years - the most beautiful years of their lives.
