How much theory vs actual strategies will be taught?
The focus of all classes is strategies which change student behavior quickly. About 80% of the time is spent on learning how to use strategies like Chalk Talk, Rating Scales, Touchstones and Self Evaluation. Each of these strategies can be expanded and adapted to meet classroom and site level needs.
Is Graduate/ or Post Baccalaureate Credit Available?
Each class is accredited through Portland State University and Cal State University. In Oregon courses are taught through Portland state University (CI 510 and 810). In all other states Post Baccalaureate credit is awarded from Cal State University (TED 7000 Credit is designed for salary scale and recertification purposes).
What are the additional requirements for credit?
All courses require a paper explaining which strategies you used in your classroom. The paper would include a clear before, during and after picture of the student(s) behaviors you intended to change using the strategy selected. Most papers are about 3-4 pages.
Do you provide Inservice?
Yes, we can come to your school district and provide a local inservice to your school staff. The cost varies depending on the number of teachers, location and date. It is best if someone has taken the class prior to the inservice so the other staff members have a person who has already experienced how easy and practical the strategies are.
