"I am very pleased to report that your class has made my life and teaching so much easier and enjoyable. After a year with a very challenging class full of lions and squirrels, I needed to reevaluate my management style. My only regret is not taking your class last year. Armed with strategies like chalk talk, rating scales, identifying what animal category a student is and the proper intervention, and effective parent communication skills, this year is turning out to be another enjoyable year." Souchoy Saechou, Sacramento CA, First Grade Teacher
"We have cut down wasted time by 75%!" L.Hubal, Elementary
"This has made a measurable, obvious difference in my classroom. I have found taking the class with coworkers to be helpful." D. Bricker, Middle School
"I enjoy the students correcting their peers' misbehaviour." D. Scott, Middle School
"With just a few easy strategies, I felt I have made some difference...My target student has improved in his elective class to the point that the teacher asked me what was going on with him." Penny Ann H., Middle School, CA
"My class is a much more peaceful place to learn now as a result of implementing the various strategies that I learned at your seminar on Empowered Teaching." Ann-Marie F., 5th Grade, Tustin, CA
"Thanks for your helpful hints and tools! They have helped me keep sanity in the classroom. My students have learned how to be better friends and help one another as well as learn more material." Michelle P., 2nd Grade, Sacramento, CA
"I bought your book in 2001and have used it substituting with good results. I found that I could change the norms even at 50 minute increments, no matter what they were with the regular teacher." Catherine V. Substitute Antioch, CA
“There is less off- task behavior in my classroom and a general feeling of learning. I am less stressed mother and teacher due to the strategies I have learned. I'm looking forward to the next time your workshop is in the area so I can attend again!"

"In my Freshman English classes, (with numerous absences and tardies) I started the rating system slowly. The students are doing much better: I admit that I never expected such a simple method to be so effective. The kids see the standards they are being held to at the time, and are involved in the process themselves. The rating
is immediate- the kids see their score for the day or activity as soon as it occurs. Ithas produced a result for me that is one of the most gratifying in a very long time. My students are carrying the techniques over to other areas of their lives".

I attended a workshop in Denver yesterday.
I am writing during my challenging class because they are all quietly reading- which has never happened before. I started with Chalk Talk and have done 2 ratings.
Thank you-this is the only free time I've had the whole year so I wanted to say thanks. This stuff works!

I have had classroom management problems throughout my over thirty years of teaching: attendance, punctuality, failing grades, family problems, poor hygiene, “bad” behavior, issues of adolescence, classroom disruption, mental health/coping problems, and more! I've had my share of defiant, angry, violent, and impulsive students, but I have had an “A-ha!” experience by using the strategies from “Empowered Teaching.” I have only five years left in my teaching career before I retire, but I know that “Empowered Discipline” teaches empowerment, and students know they are accountable for their behavior. I believe the research results because I have seen gains in on-task behavior, and I have seen a positive, healthy attitude in my class since using the intervention strategies.
