Use and Care of Pewter !

Use and Care of Pewter

Our polished pewter is designed and handcrafted for cooking, serving and decorating. The distinctive, high polished look of this sandcasted pewter, with its natural imperfections, has the appearance of fine silver, but in fact is a special metal alloy with no lead content. The pieces are completely food safe.

COOKING

Our quality pewter is fully functional for cooking in the oven. Before using your piece, lightly wipe or spray the inside of the pewter piece with cooking oil, whether its for cooking, heating or serving. This protects it from discoloration that may be caused by highly acidic or salty foods.

SERVING

Warming: For serving a warm entrée that has been cooked in a different pan, simply put the pewter piece in the oven for 15 minutes and then transfer the food. The excellent heat retention of pewter means additional ease in entertaining. Foods served at the table preheated stay piping hot throughout the meal.

Chilling: Pewter also retains cold very well and gives you the option of pre-chilling foods in the refrigerator of the freezer to keep them chilled on the table. Salads stay crisp and fresh; frozen desserts resist melting.

CARE

Decorative pieces should require no more care than dusting. Cooking pieces should be washed soon after use soap and water. Rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft towel. NOT DISHWASHER SAFE (water spots will form). Foods or liquids should not be stored overnight in the pieces. Serving with pewter forks and spoons is acceptable. The cutting action of a sharp knife may scratch the surface of any metal piece. This may be removed with a pewter polish.
