What is pewter?

Pewter is an alloy, a combination of metals. Old pewter (mugs, tea serving sets) used to be comprised of mainly tin and lead. Of course, lead is no longer used in pewter in the United States (some international pewter may still have lead content). Our pewter, which we call polished pewter, to differentiate between old pewter, is mainly comprised of tin (tradition). This new pewter is much stronger and versatile than the old pewter (food safe, does not tarnish).

Why so shiny?

There are 2 main reasons for this. First of all, the pewter alloy we use is different than other manufacturers. Secondly, through labor intensive polishing we can pull this glossy, distinctive finish out of the pewter piece.

Can you engrave?

Absolutely. Wedding names, dates look elegant. Corporate sales awards names, dates look sophisticated.

Why low prices?

We make the items and we sell the items. Our prices are close to wholesale prices and that is by design.

Dishwasher safe?

Over time, water spots will occur and your pewter will lose some of its high polished finish. It will not look as nice. The culprit is automatic dishwasher detergent.

Scratch easily?

In a word, no. Some preventive care is required, though. First of all, we suggest to not use a serrated edged knife and cut into the pewter metal, as this will leave a scratch. Using a fork and spoon serving set in a salad bowl, for example, is safe. If scratches do occur over time, we suggest using a pewter polish available at a hardware store. Please keep in mind that with the natural imperfections inherent in the sandcasted pewter, additional markings add to the character.

Polishing?

There is no lead content in our pieces, which was the main cause of old pewter’s tarnishing. No tarnishing, no polishing required.

Cooking?

Yes. We suggest temperatures no higher than 400 degrees (whether cooking in the oven or on the stovetop). Our pewter pieces are completely food safe. Please wipe or spray the inside of the pewter piece with cooking oil before use. This protects from discoloration from highly acidic or salty foods (tomatoes, citrus fruits, salad dressings and such).

Location?

Most weekends we are at Art Shows (view the Show Schedule for locations). Also see the Contact Us page.
