As mentioned in the Flight Surgeon Log, on October 9, 1943, Leonard McCleary received the Air Medal. Additionally, after the Squadron Commander, Major James R. Anderson, was injured on Octobet 10, 1943, Captain McCleary became the Commanding Officer of the squadron until Major Stanley R. Bailey joined the squadron in November 1943.
From the best and only information available at this time, after the war, Leonard McCleary went back to school and received an engineering degree and worked in the aerospace industry. He married, had nine children, and lived in San Jose, CA. He passed away in 1988.
