Jonathan Emil McCoy Explains History of the "N-Word"

American Slavery Narratives-"OurStory," not "HiStory."
Understanding the way sex was used during American Slavery, can help us understand why some American families are dysfunctional today. The death-rate among slaves was high. To replace their losses, plantation owners encouraged the slaves to have children. Child-bearing started around the age of thirteen, and by twenty, the female slaves would be expected to have four or five children." To encourage child-bearing, some slave owners promised female slaves their freedom after they had produced fifteen or more children.

American Slavery-1712, wILLIE lYNCH Economic Plan
The "willie lynch economic plan" helped solidify American Slavery, the financial system the United States was built upon.  Hate crimes, referred to as Lynch Law by  Frederick Douglass in his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, also help justify REPARATIONS for slavery.  All Americans should be aware of this history.  Then and only then, can we understand enough to forgive ourselves and others for the unfortunate legacy of American Slavery.  Then we can begin a real healing process through FORGIVENESS.

Have YOU been "willie lynched"?  White or Black, self-acknowledgement that you have been "willie lynched" and how it has affected your beliefs is the beginning of personal healing.

For Christians, Jesus' crucifixion illustrated the vital and painful need to forgive and be forgiven. God knew the ugly GUILT and SIN Jesus' blood would have to cover; He knew American Slavery would come.  The Bible says, "renew your mind" for a reason--FORGIVENESS can set you FREE, otherwise you are just LOOSE!  Europeans referred to Africans as "Black Gold;"  They knew the real value of Africans as they enslaved them.

Black History-an oxymoron
After visiting Jamestown, VA in February 2007, for Tavis Smiley's State of the Black Union conference, I realized that there is no "Black History" because "HisStory" is NOT a true account of  the African experience in America. "HisStory" is NOT "OurStory."   It's up to people of African descent to discover and write the story of the African legacy in America, which runs as deep as the European legacy. We must continue to read, learn and rewrite the stories of the past to reflect truth.  In the case of descendants of American Slaves, reparations and healing, there is a new story to be toldThis site contains Timelines. Biographies, Civil Rights Leaders, Religious Leaders, Government Officials, etc. to help in that process.

Blacks--a Big Part of Unions...
"Blacks a big part of labor, but not in top positions..." by Gary T. Pakulski, The Toledo Blade, 27 February 2000.  "Decades after Asa Philip Randolph organized black sleeping car porters in New York and Martin Luther King, Jr., made a fateful trip to Memphis to walk picket lines alongside striking garbage workers, critics charge that the U.S. labor movement includes too few leaders.

One explanation: "Large numbers of blacks haven't sought leadership positions in recent years because, like white co-workers, they have become complacent in good economic times," said Dave Taylor of the Toledo AFSME local.

Blacks and the Labor Movement
Blacks and the Labor Movement by Thomas C. Fleming, Apr 28, 1999
The United Mine Workers, which held a charter from the American Federation of Labor, was one of the few labor unions that was truly integrated from the beginning.  John L. Lewis, its president, one of the most significant and capable leaders in the history of the U.S. Labor movement -- saw the wisdom of blacks working alongside white workers.  He knew that if blacks were left out, they would be used as scabs during strikes.  Lewis had to convince the rank and file to bring blacks in as a matter of self-preservation."

K-12 Curriculum-Endorses Slavery Reparations
"A lot of African-American kids have no idea of their culture. They have no idea what part of Africa they came from," he said. "If they know where they came from, in terms of their culture, then they'll know where they are presently."
