Okay, so they are mad at Oprah Winfrey for saying "No" to President Bush when he asked her to go to Afghanistan. According to Joseph Honig (TV writer) who wrote in his article today in the Daily News, Los Angeles edition, "Her Oprahness has blown off the nation that enriched her" and..."has told the White House that running a billion-dollar empire takes precedence over answering her president's call." Sounds like a terrible thing for America's sweetheart to do, doesn't it? How could she? Or better yet, WHY would she?Would YOU go? Shoot, I'm hard pressed to get on a plane to go see my mother in Virginia since Sept. 11, 2001. But I wasn't crazy about the "flying experience" after catching menigitis in '98, after flying...and those two delays and cancellation due to "mechanical problems" the last time I flew kept me grounded BEFORE 911! So I guess, I am not the one to ask.
So, unless you're in the military or a diplomat, would YOU be willing to take a 12,000 mile journey to a wartorn country (thanks to OUR missiles) where they they already killed Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearle, they can't find Osama bin Laden, a Red Bull or toilet paper and the only images you've seen are bhurka covered women and children kickin' back in a cave? That, somehow, as patriotic as I am, does NOT appeal to me.
As America's most beloved talk show host, when did Oprah become a more influential international power than our President? Is it because she's a powerful Black woman in America that she is being asked? Does Bush want to show an example of what any Afghan woman can be...in America if you live in our democratic society? See how nice America is? We've got Oprah! Yeah, right.
What is Bush saying by his request? After all, it's Colin Powell that is being sent to soothe the savage beasts in the Middle East this week, not Bush. Ariel Sharon basically said "Up yours" to George Dubya's call for a "wind down" of the Israeli military sweep in the West Bank.
Hmmm...Is there something they are not telling us?
On his radio show, Rush Limbaugh said Bush shouldn't even have asked Oprah unless he knew she'd say "yes." "You just don't do that!" Rush exclaimed, saying it was poor strategy considering she is a die-hard, bleeding heart liberal Democrat. "Why would she want to help the Republicans?"
Well, I guess it's "get back time." Joseph Honig, no doubt a Republican, dogged Oprah out because she doesn't want to get caught up in the U. S./Israeli strategy to "deal" with Afghanistan and the Middle East, suggesting that she snubbed "our nation." He left out a couple of little details, however, like WHY Bush asked HER to go and what he expected her to do? You think they told her everything, like how her safety would be guaranteed? As if...
You think they're they telling US everything?
Would you put your trust and life in the hands of someone who "invited" you to go to Afghanistan to represent his interests after being "selected" president and boldly saying he wants bin Laden "Dead or Alive?" Who do you think is expendable in his cause? Just asking.
