Curriculum Description
Morning Classes
Pranayama:
Facilitates deep relaxation, full energy flow and an
experience of harmony and unity through breath.
Pre-Technique Warm-up:
Promotes strength and stamina. Prepares
joints, muscles, heart and circulatory system for the rigorous demands of
technique classes, rehearsals and performances.
Ballet Technique (2 levels):
Supplies serious ballet and modern
students with intensive classical training. Builds coordination, agility,
vocabulary and strength.
Modern Technique (2 levels):
Provides vital training for integrating
alignment, movement skills and spatial clarity. Emphasizes ease, efficiency,
musicality and expression.
Afternoon Classes
Yoga:
Brings together spiritual and physical postures creating both
a calming and an energizing experience. Students further knowledge of breath work, body awareness, and flexibility practices. The form practiced is based on Hatha Yoga. This work is applicable to anyone interested in movement and for dancers and teachers of all disciplines. The focus encourages creativity in one's personal practice or pedagogy.
Anatomy/Kinesiology:
Focuses on the living, moving, working,
dancing body. Students learn basic anatomy as it functions in their own
bodies.
Lab Class - Dance Correctives/Bartenieff Fundamentals:
Develops lower body support,
dynamic alignment, joint articulation, breath support, whole body integration, weight shift
and locomotion.
Lab Class - Performance Technique/Laban Movement Analysis:
Addresses personal
style and develops vocabulary and movement choices to increase dramatic range,
performing, rehearsing and auditioning capabilities through natural movement
and contact improvisation.
Composition:
Provides a safe, nurturing environment to
explore personal movement style, craft and creativity.
Repertory:
Offers participation in original works by Artistic Director
Laura Glenn, Festival faculty and Company members for concerts during
the final weekend of the Festival.
