2006 FACULTY+MUSICIANS


Laura Glenn, Artisic Director of WMSDF and Works/Laura Glenn Dance, has created over 35 works. Recognized internationally as a performer, choreographer and teacher, she is on the faculty of The Juilliard School, her alma mater, has taught at Teacher's College, the Alvin Ailey School, Lincoln Center Institute and the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies, and is a Certified Movement Analyst. Over the last 25 years she has received Fellowships from the NEA, NY Foundation for the Arts, Roberts and Dance Magazine Foundations. She has toured extensively with teaching programs, as a soloist with the Limon Company(11 years), staging Limon work, and she is also Artistic Director of the Ted Hershey Dance and Music Marathon in Hartford, CT, now in its sixth year.

Paul Dennis, Festival Director, received his BFA from the Juilliard School in 1990 and was a member of the Jose Limon Dance Company, where he performed works of Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey, Daniel Nagrin, Garth Fagan, Ralph Lemon, Phillis Lamhut and Donald McKayle. He has also performed with Works/Laura Glenn Dance and the Jacob's Pillow Men's Dancers Project. He currently teaches at Dance International in Burgos, Spain, Central Connecticut State University, and is a guest artist/faculty at Mount Holyoke University, Ridgefield Dance Conservatory, and Trinity College. This will be Paul's first summer at the Festival.

Winifred Crumrine received her BA in Dance at Washington University and her MS in Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a performer and choreographer with Kanopy Dance Theatre. Winifred instructs movement education workshops and maintains a practice in therapeutic exercise with her company Body Knowledge, Inc., in Raleigh, NC. She is a nationally certified massage therapist and on the faculty of the Medical Arts Massage School. This will be Winifred's eighteenth summer teaching at the Festival.

Jim Lepore is currently an associate professor of dance at George Mason University and has taught at the College of William and Mary and the University of Washington. He was a member of Carolyn Carlson's La Fenice Dance Theatre in Venice, Italy and the Jose Limon Company. He has staged his choreography and conducted dance workshops nationally and internationally. His teaching specialties include modern technique, Laban Movement Analysis, contact improvisation and Afro-Caribbean dance. Jim received his MFA from Temple University and is a CMA. Jim will rejoin the Festival for his sixteenth summer.

James Martin has been a full time teacher at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts since 1990. He has been produced in NYC by P.S. 122, The Gay Games Festival, Ballet Builders/New Choreographers on Point,St. Marks Danspace Project, 92nd Street Y, and The SoHo Arts Festival. He has choreographed and guest taught extensively in the US and Europe, including Wesleyen University, Bat Dor Summer Workshop, The American Dance Festival, Mark Morris Monnaie Dance Group, The Ballet Academy of Stockholm, The Dansen Hus in Copenhagen and The New Dance Collective. He has danced with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane and Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, The Conneticut Ballet Company and The New York Baroque Dance Company. This will be his ninth summer at the festival.

Sarah Imhoff-Jones received her BFA in Dance at Sam Houston State University and her MFA in Dance at Texas Women's University. She has supplemented her dance training and performance experience for the past ten years with various somatic techniques and has received certification in Neuromuscular Fitness and Therapy, Pilates and Yoga . Sarah joined the dance faculty at SHSU from 1998-2001 where she began working with students to enhance their dance experience through somatic training. Currently, as the owner and director of the Huntsville Health Movement, Sarah continues to develop Hatha Pilates, a technique that incorporates the flexibility of Yoga and the core strength of Pilates with multiple somatic tools. This is Sarah's fourth summer at the festival.

Works/Laura Glenn Dance in its 22nd season, is known for its performing and teaching residencies throughout the United States and Europe, including the major festivals in Holland, London, Paris, and New York. W/LGD has performed in NYC at the Joyce Theater, Dance Theater Workshop, St. Mark's Church and for the National Performance Network. W/LGD has been awarded grants from the NEA, NY State Council on the Arts, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, The CT Commission on the Arts, The Greater Hartford Arts Council, the NH State Council on the Arts and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.

Musicians/Composers

David Sannella has provided music for dance since 1978. He was the musical director of the Bill Evans Dance Company in Seattle for five years, and has worked with Twyla Tharp and Paul Taylor in NYC. He currently provides music for the schools at Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, and Julliard. Mr. Sannella has composed and performed many pieces for instrumental and choral ensembles. As a violinist, he has been a member of several major symphony orchestras. At the moment he is pursuing opportunities in music for film. This will be David's seventh year at the Festival.

Ken Ray Wilemon has used percussion, voice, and other strange and/or wonderful objects to accompany dance since 1984. He has recorded with Nashville guitarist/producer Robin Crow and folk singers Anne Hills. He recently composed, recorded, and performed music for the Duke Theatre Production of "Helen" with director Robert Richmond, and currently creates soundscapes for the North Carolina based improvisational theatre company, "them". He is also an adjunct faculty member at Meredith College where he accompanies dance and co-teaches a music for dance class. He is a fifteen year veteran of the American Dance Festival and will be returning to WMSDF for his eleventh season.
