Robert H. Marquette Remembered
Robert Henry Marquette, 80, of Myerstown, owner of Loser’s Music Store,
Lebanon, died Friday evening, May 2, 2003 in his home.
He was born in Shamokin, PA, son of the late Robert and Mary Frye Marquette.
He was the husband of Grace M. Cully Marquette, with whom he celebrated their
57th wedding anniversary on April 20th.
A lifetime musician, he received his BA from Lebanon Valley College and his
MA in music from Columbia University. He began his teaching career at Lower
Camden County Regional High School in New Jersey and at Lower Merion High
School in Ardmore. He purchased Loser’s Music Store in 1954 when it
was located at 605 Cumberland Street, Lebanon. In 1968, he relocated Loser’s
to its present location at 728 Cumberland Street, Lebanon.
He was a member of Pennsylvania Music Merchants, Retail Sheet Music Merchants,
Pennsylvania Music Educators, Marion Seniors and Lebanon AARP. He was amember
of Zion United Methodist Church, Myerstown, where he served as Choir Director
for 25 years. He joined the Marine Corps in 1942 and served at Cherry Point
in the Marine Band and then in Okinawa and in China during WorldWar II.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Dianne Marquette of Lebanon;
a son, Bruce, husband of Janice Marquette of Lebanon; grand children Katherine,
wife of Eric Morrison of Myerstown, Douglas Shenk of Jonestown, and Brian
and Lisa Marquette, at home; three great-grandchildren; a brother, George
Reynolds Marquette of Annville and three nephews.
A memorial fund has been set up in his name to further music education. Contributions
may be made to the ELCO Education Foundation, Robert Marquette Memorial Music
Scholarship, PO Box 114, Myerstown, PA 17067.
