Lawrence Model, MD

After his early years in Newark, NJ, Doctor Model attended high school in West Orange. He was an NCAA Div I athlete at Rutgers College, earning three varsity letters on the fencing team. A Henry Rutgers Scholar, he received several academic awards including election to Phi Beta Kappa.
Medical school followed in the District of Columbia at the George Washington University, where he was recognized by the William Beaumont Medical Society. He then completed a family practice residency at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, part of Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, he has successfully passed recertification examination four times since.
For two years, Doctor Model served in the National Health Service Corp as the only doctor in Union County, South Dakota. Before returning east he traveled extensively around the world, and photographs from that adventure decorate his office.
He settled in Rockland County in 1983 to raise a family. Both children attended local public schools where his wife continues to teach.
Doctor Model is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Auxiliary. After four years in command of the Catskill Mountain Group, he currently serves as the Inspector General for Civil Air Patrol in the state of New York.
