Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 1000th Avenue at 82nd Street, New York, NY. The Met has an extensive permanent collection thought to be one of the best in the World. The Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, but is always closed on Monday. Parking is located at 5th Avenue and 80th Street, and is open 24 hours a day. The museum opens at 9:30 AM and closes most days at 5:30 PM. Admission is a donation of $10.00 for adults, and $5.00 for students and senior citizens. Admission includes the main building and the Cloisters at Fort Tryon Park. Make a day of it, but check out the website first. It's great!




Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, is located at 11 West 53rd Street, New York, NY. MoMA is open Saturday through Tuesday and Thursday 10:30 AM-5:45PM, and Friday from 10:30AM-8:15PM. It is cclosed on Wednesdays. Adult admission is $10.00. The Museum of Modern Art was the first museum to devote its programs and collection entirely to the modern movement. The Museum's collection offers an unparalleled overview of modern and contemporary art, and has grown to include more than 100,000 works in a variety of mediums, divided into six collecting areas: architecture and design, drawings, film and video, painting and sculpture, photography, and prints and illustrated books. Come and see it for yourself!




Guggenheim Museum
The Solomon Guggenheim Museum is located at 1075 Fifth Avenue at 89th Street, New York, NY. The Guggenheim is open Sunday through Wednesday 9AM-6PM; closed Thursdays, and open Friday and Saturday at 9AM-8PM. The Guggenheim was designed and built by pre-emminent architect, Frank Loydd Wright. The museums permanent collection is basically composed of works described as 20th Century Modernism, but it does have works of such 19th and early 20th century innovators as Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, and Vincent van Gogh. If you have never been to the Guggenheim, you're in for a treat. The building alone is fantastic, and the art is wonderful!




Frick Collection and Library
The Frick Collection and Library is located at 1 East 70th Street between 5th and Madison Avenue between 5th and Madison Avenue. It is closed Mondays, open Tuesday-Saturday 10AM-6PM, and open Sunday 1PM-6PM. Admission for adults is $7.00.




Whitney Museum of American Art
The Whitney Museum of American Art is located at 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street, New York, NY. It is closed Mondays, open Tuesday-Thursday 11AM-6PM, open Friday 1PM-9PM, open Saturday-Sunday 11AM-6PM. Adult admission is $10.00. The Whitney Museum has a permanent collection works including painting, sculpture, photographs, prints and drawings from the fisrt half of the Twentieth Century. The Leonard & Evelyn Lauder Galleries have rooms dedicated to three artists whose work the Museum has collected in depth and who are closely associated with the Whitney's history: Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Alexander Calder.




Pierpont Morgan Museum and Library
The Pierpont Morgan Museum and Library is located at 29 East 36th Street, New York, NY. It is open Tuesday through Thursday, 10:30AM-5PM, Friday, 10:30AM-8PM, Saturday, 10:30AM-6PM and Sunday, noon-6PM. Adult admission to the museum is $8.00. The Morgan Collection includes drawings and prints, medieval and renaissance manuscripts, literary and historical manuscripts, music manuscripts and books, and ancient near eastern tablets. The Morgan Museum and Library is closed Monday and holidays.




Brooklyn Museum of Art
The Brookln Museum of Art is open Wednesday-Friday from 10AM-5PM, the first Saturday of each month 11AM-11PM, all other Saturdays 11AM-6PM, and Sunday 11AM-6PM. Adult admission is $4.00. The Brooklyn Museum's collection of Painting and Sculpture includes European and American works from the 14th century to the present day. The collection of American paintings is considered one of the finest in the United States.





Carnegie Museum of Art
The Carnegie Museum of Art exhibits works on architecture, decorative arts, paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from the 15th century to the present.




Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is located at 26th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA. The museum is closed Mondays, open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00AM-5:00PM, and open
Wednesday evenings until 8:45PM. There is parking on the grounds of the museum. The Philadelphia Museum of Art in one of the largest and most inportant art museums in the United States. The mission of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in partnership with the city, the region, and art museums around the globe, seeks to preserve, enhance, interpret, and extend the reach of its great collections in particular, and the visual arts in general, to an increasing and increasingly diverse audience.





Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts is located at Broad and Cherry Streets, Philadelphia, PA, two blocks north of City Hall. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10AM-5PM, and Sunday 11AM-5PM.
Adult admission to Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts is $5.00. The PAFA was founded in 1805. It is the oldest art museum and school in the United States. The Academy's museum is internationally known for its collections of 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century American paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, and as a study center for the work of Thomas Eakins, Cecilia Beaux, and Robert Motherwell, due to its collections and archival materials.

National Gallery of Art
The National Gallery of Art and its Sculpture Garden, located on the National Mall between Third and Ninth Streets at Constitution Avenue. Admission to the National Gallery of Art is free. It is open Monday-Saturday 10AM-5PM and Sunday 11AM-6PM. The National Gallery of Art posseses one of the finest collections in the world illustrating major achievements in painting, sculpture, and graphic arts from the Middle Ages to the present.




Freer Gallery of Art & Sackler Gallery
The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery together form the national museum of asia art at the Smithsonian Institution. The galleries are located on the National Mall. The museum is open from 10AM-5:30PM every day except December 25. Admission is free. The Sackler Gallery is connected by an underground exhibition space to the neighboring Freer Gallery of Art.




Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is also part of the Smithsonian Institution, and is located on Independence Avenue at Seventh Street in Southwest Washington, DC. The museum is open daily except December 25, 10AM-5:30PM. The sculpture garden is open 7:30AM to dusk. Admission is free. The Hirshhorn has one of the most comprehensive collections of modern sculpture in the United States or abroad. The collection's other strengths include contemporary art, European painting since World War II and American painting since the late l9th century.







National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. is currently undergoing renovation and will be closed until 2004. Portrait of a Nation is an initiative of the National Portrait Gallery while the museum's home in Washington, DC, is remodeled. This initiative is composed of four major exhibitions, which will tour nationally and internationally for the next four years, as well as a number of smaller exhibitions that will remain at a particular venue for the duration of the renovation. The objects featured in these exhibitions draw primarily from the Gallery's permanent collection.




United States Naval Art Collection
The United States Naval Art Collection is located at the Washington Naval Yards in Washington, D.C. in building 67. The museum is open Wednesday-Friday 9am-4pm, Saturday 10AM-4PM, and Sunday 12N-4PM. It is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as federal holidays. The Navy Art Collection has over 13,000 paintings, prints, drawings, and sculpture. It contains depictions of naval ships, personnel, and action from all eras of U.S. naval history, but due to the operation of the Combat Art Program, the eras of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Desert Shield/Storm are particularly well represented.
