Smithsonian Institution
-
The Smithsonian Museum was established in 1846 with with funds bequeathed to the United States by James Smithson. The Institution is as an independent trust instrumentality of the United States holding more than 140 million artifacts and specimens in its trust for "the increase and diffusion of knowledge".
The Smithsonian is composed of 16 museums and galleries, the National Zoo,and numerous research facilities in the United States and abroad. Nine Smithsonian museums are located on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Capitol. Five other museums and the Zoo are elsewhere in Washington, D.C., and both the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and the National Museum of the American Indian Heye Center are in New York City.
The Smithsonian is a wonderful place to visit when in Washington, D.C. The museums are open from 10AM-5:30PM with some exceptions. Admission is free. It's an outstanding institution. Don't miss it.

American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History is located at Central Park West at 79th Street, New York, New York. This is a wonderful institution for young and old alike. It houses an IMAX Theater with shows that are constantly changing, the Rose Center for Space and Earth which is the new home of the Hayden Planetarium, special exhibitions as well as old favorites, and much, much more. There is onsite parking, and a new museum food court. Get onto the website to plan your day trip!
