It's difficult to get the real lowdown on a city unless you're there day in and day out. San Francisco is a great city to visit but the options can be overwhelming. There are also some idiosyncracies about our City that most do not know. For example, always bring several layers of clothing - it can get pretty chilly even during the summer months.

We provide this section as a free service to you. We hope we can answer your questions and help you Plan your San Francisco vacation. We always try to post responses in a timely manner. If you have an urgent question, feel free to call us at (800) 523-1801

Hello, I am coming to San Francisco on July 8th and it will be for my honeymoon. That night, I was hoping to find a perfect place for dinner since my fiance has never been to your city. Do you have any suggestions? Also, we are planning to go to Alcatraz the next morning (Monday)and I was just wondering what the best way to do that would be. Is there a certain group that is best to go with? Thanks for all your help! - Greg

Subject Your honeymoon trip to San Francisco

Date Thu May 27 2004 13:29

Author Genessa (genessaepting@yahoo.com)

Hi Greg, I live here in SF and my family is staying at Pac Heights Inn so I saw your posting. Not sure if you have decided on a restaurant yet but here are a few suggestions:
In the Marina: #1: Night Monkey--small, soft lighting, great food, a tad pricy--normal for SF. #2: On Polk Street: Antica--it's fabulous--romantic, great staff, great wine and since the menu often changes the only thing I can say is--if they have pumpkin ravioli on the menu--order it! #3: By the civic center: Jardiere--this is a French name for the restaurant but it's not french food. Last time i went I had the salmon. This is a bit more pricy than the other two but worth it. For more casual dining: Perry's on Union Street---walk West from this hotel and it's about 6-7 blocks down on the right hand side. There is also La Barca for Mexican (on Lombard in the Marina) and if you want Italian head to north beach: Ideale is the best! good food, good price or go next door and watch the flamanco dancers.

Hope that helps!

As for Alcatraz, try the blue and gold fleet. Try to go around noon so the fog will have burned off-if it does at all. they have discount tickets available but I'm not sure how to get them. I know if you walk down by Pier 39 you'll see booths.

Have a great time---and try and get to the top of the mariott hotel to have a drink and see the view or for real romance go to the Top of the Mark at the Mark Hopkins hotel in Nob Hill. That's a real treat.

Congrats on the nuptials.

I have only visited in Sept and am actually coming again ---for the 14th time!- this coming Labor Day for my Birthday. I love this time because it's beautiful! I can wear shorts with a sweater (odd combo I know) because you can be warm and then the temp will drop and the wind will blow just around the corner. In the evenings be sure to bring something to keep you warm. A light jacket is fine. If you go across the SF bridge you will hit summer all over again- it's hot. Remember- SF has all the air coming in off the ocean and makes that unbelievably gorgeous fog..and a drop in temp. I just LOVE IT!

Author Brian Farwick (brianfarwick@cinci.rr.com)

Dear Pacific Heights,

I am scheduled to arrive next Saturday for a week with you guys in SF. I am wondering what the best mode of transportation is from SFO?

I was planning on buying a city pass once I got out there since it may be too late to purchase and have it shipped. Is taxi, airport shuttle, or public transport available to get to the hotel?

Approximately how far is it?

Thanks so much..
