Vocational Training at Steps to Success is training program that prepares individuals for a specific job or occupation. Trainings can be up to 12 months in length with any state-approved training provider, school, or program. Participation in the vocation training program requires that students report attendance, grades, and maintain eligibility.
Students who are interested in vocational training must first request an application packet from their DHS plan coordinator. Following the appointment with their plan coordinator, eligible students will be referred to an information session to learn specifics of the vocational training program, including eligible programs, student expectations, and resources to support them while in training. Students can also receive assistance with their application packet.
Once the student’s application packet is complete, the packet is forwarded to a VT committee who will approve or deny the application. Approval determination is based on many factors, including student attendance, eligibility requirements for the particular school or program, industry or occupational demand, criminal history, and educational or licensure requirements for the occupation.
Once the vocational training is approved by the committee, students are given specific instructions from their DHS plan coordinator. Students expected to document all class and training attendance and report their attendance to Steps to Success by the 5th of each month. Students must also maintain satisfactory progress, and report their grades at the end of each term, quarter, or section.
