Note to authors (January 6, 2010):
The economy is turning around and publishing houses are beginning once again to open their doors to prospective new writers (an upswing from the first three quarters of 2009). The time is now to take this opportunity seriously. House editors are looking for the "new and unusual." Don't sit back and say, "Well, I wish I had..." Do something about it. However, keep this in mind: A good story is only half the battle. The writing must be sharp, consistent and logically arranged with a pleasing format presentation and acceptable level of characterization. NO, PUBLISHING HOUSES WILL NOT "FIX" MANUSCRIPTS IN-HOUSE. Submissions must be salable when the package is first opened at publishers. However, there is no such thing as a "perfect manuscript." Mistakes can be found in encyclopedias. But "salable" does mean good writing with a unique story.
Let's see what you've got...

The Aaland Agency commitment...
You took the time to pen your story...hours on end in sorting, analyzing and trying various syntax combinations to get the best punch. You deserve an agency commitment that starts with those fielding your manuscript to publishers being capable of creating a commercial submission that has a demonstrated chance to win and continues as the effort expands to the arena of landing a publishing house contract for you and the agency. For the author, a publishing contract can mean a new life style. For the agency, it is no less important as the manuscript can end up being optioned to the film industry and that means movie or TV rights and residuals from eventual syndication. Does this sound like we take our business seriously?
It is the primary mission of The Aaland Agency to identify those unique stories from the more than one hundred submissions we receive per month, author to agency, that display significant potential for a positive publisher decision and to do everything we can in putting together a commercial submission package enabling both author and agency to notch a win. That formula can equal big bucks.
