You also learn crucial information about the learning process and your own unique learning style. This information enhances your success in learning medical terminology and other medical/scientific subjects as well as your ability to embody the skills necessary for the practice of sensitive, healing touchwork.
The Academy's approach to learning and healing is to teach you how to build trust with yourself and others, how to enhance physical integrity through your touch and how to walk your talk as a health practitioner. The strong foundation you receive in your own process of healing teaches you how to receive from each massage session you give.
Touch and Healing
There is no substitute for caring, sensitive touch in healing work. We teach you how to initiate and complete touch as a sacred moment. We show you how to establish and maintain physical trust throughout the entire massage session.
BodyMind Massage is more than touch techniques and knowledge about how the body works. It is experiencing the sacredness of touch and using touch to assist the healing process. Our approach to massage is to build a strong foundation in medical knowledge and integrate practice with a wide variety of different modalities, techniques, body types and symptoms. To western medical information and techniques we add eastern energetic information and techniques. This integration is one of the things that makes the BodyMind Academy's Massage Practitioner Program unique.
Another unique aspect of our program is our attitude toward emotion and emotion release.Your training at the BodyMind Academy teaches you how to welcome emotion release as a necessary part of the healing process. We teach you how to be comfortable with your own and others' emotions and to embody and demonstrate trustworthiness, confidence and caring through your touch. The BodyMind Massage Practitioner takes responsibility to listen to past history and present needs and crafts a session that responds directly to the specific needs of each client. These are some of the many unique aspects of our training that identifies you upon graduation as a BodyMind Massage Practitioner.
The Case Study Program: Embodying What You Learn
Embodying what you learn makes what you are learning literally available at your fingertips. This is the goal of all teaching at the Academy. The Academy's Case Study Program gives you the supervised practice that helps you embody everything you are learning. This powerful part of your experience at the BodyMind Academy teaches you how to schedule clients and provide continuity of care as you observe each individual's progress throughout five sessions.
How Your Training Unfolds
Your first term at the Academy is called the Personal Healing Term. During this term, the focus is on your own healing and what you bring to the process of becoming a professional massage practitioner. The second term is called the Transformational Term. During this term, you will notice all the changes occuring in your body, your mind and your life as a result of what you are learning. The third term is called the Professional Term. Here, you get the opportunity to practice being a professional massage practitioner while you are still in school.
During your first term, your case study clients are chosen from among your classmates. Your Term 2 and 3 case study clients are chosen from people who are outside of your class. These case study clients are likely to become your first paying clients once you graduate and receive your license.
