The Most Comprehensive
Shiatsu Program In Washington
Shiatsu is a Japanese word which has two parts: shi
I> meaning finger and atsu meaning pressure. BodyMind
Shiatsu is an integrative form of Shiatsu that combines
anatomical Shiatsu, meridian Shiatsu, Zen Shiatsu and the 5
element energy transformations as they apply to the emotions.
BodyMind Shiatsu uses direct pressure touch on specific
anatomical and meridian points to assist healing.
The BodyMind Shiatsu Practitioner Program is 324 credit hours.
We teach you Shiatsu pulse assessment, whole body matwork, how
to work with emotions and emotion release, and specific
treatments for chronic pain, colitis, high blood pressure,
whiplash, sciatica, low back pain and much more. The
BodyMind Shiatsu Practitioner Program teaches you to practice
Shiatsu without pain to the client and with ease to the
practitioner. Because of its integrative nature, this program
leverages your ability to provide assistance to your self and
to your clients. The elements of the program, described below,
combine to create a synergy that is greater than the sum of
its parts.
Energy Work and The
Energy Perspective
The BodyMind Shiatsu Practitioner Program teaches you to use
energy rather than muscle to assist the healing
process. Getting The Energy Perspective is a process
that involves increasing your sensitivity and your intuitive
understanding of healing energy and the actions that direct it. This process takes some time. As you practice pulse assessment and energy flow through the body's meridian pathways, you begin to feel the results of specific pressures on specific Shiatsu points. Your energy sensitivity expands. The joy of learning BodyMind Shiatsu includes seeing and feeling indisputable evidence of your healing capabilities. Practicing BodyMind Shiatsu balances your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy as you work. It is like doing Tai Chi while you are giving a massage. The person practicing BodyMind Shiatsu receives energy benefits from every session he or she gives.
Balance Breathing and
Macrobiotics
Balance Breathing is a health practice that teaches you how
to assess the condition of your personal energy and apply
apropriate breath interventions to bring your energy into
balance. Macrobiotics is the practice of using specific foods
to balance your energy. Both practices are taught as a part of
the BodyMind Shiatsu Program. As you work with them, your
ability to assess energy and embody The Energy
Perspective increases.
Anatomical
Zen Shiatsu: Whole Body Matwork
Anatomical BodyMind Shiatsu applies specific pressures
to the body's anatomical structures to move blocked energy and
promote healing. Anatomical Shiatsu includes and integrates
both Namikoshi and Zen Shiatsu (Masunaga) in the practice of
Whole Body Matwork. Matwork is Shiatsu done with the freedom
of movement available on a mat placed on the floor.
Meridian Shiatsu
The ancient Chinese identified energy flow channels through
the body called meridians. Meridian BodyMind Shiatsu
teaches you the location and use of 361 specific points on 12
bilateral and 2 unilateral body meridians, meridian stretches,
how to use the 12 wrist pulses to assess the condition of the
meridians and how to create touch applications that assist the
energy flow through the meridians.
BodyMind Shiatsu and
Emotion Release
BodyMind Shiatsu pays particular attention to the role that
emotional holding patterns play in the development of tension,
pain and disease. The BodyMind Shiatsu Program teaches you the
5 element Energy Transformations from Chinese Medicine. With
this foundation, we show you how to balance the five emotions
(grief, fear, anger, joy and love) by releasing emotional
holding patterns during the BodyMind Shiatsu session.
The Case Study Program:
Embodying What You Learn
Embodying what you learn makes what you are learning literally
available at your fingertips. The Academy's Case Study Program
gives you the supervised practice that helps you embody
everything you are learning. This powerful part of your
experience at the BodyMind Academy teaches you how to schedule
clients and provide continuity of care as you observe each
individual's progress through five sessions.
How Your Training
Unfolds
Your first term at the Academy is called the Personal Healing
Term. During this term, the focus is on your own healing and
what you bring to the process of becoming a BodyMind Shiatsu
Practitioner. The second term is called the Transformational
Term. During this term, you will notice all the changes
occuring in your body, your mind and your life as a result of
what you are learning. The third term is called the
Professional Term. Here, you get the opportunity to practice
being a professional BodyMind Shiatsu Practitioner while you
are still in school.
During your first term, your case study clients are chosen
from among your classmates. Your Term 2 and 3 case study
clients are chosen from people who are outside of your
class.
Your Final Project Report gives you the opportunity to
discover and explore an area within the practice of BodyMind
Shiatsu where you are called to make a contribution. Your
Final Project Report and your completed Case Studies place
you on the fast track to establishing a successful BodyMind
Shiatsu practice once you have graduated.
Establishing Your
Professional Practice
In order to practice BodyMind Shiatsu professionally,
you will need to receive a massage license from the state of
Washington if you do not already have one. We recommend
completing the massage program at the Academy in order to
satisfy all the state requirements to get your massage license. It is possible to take both the massage and Shiatsu programs at the same time. For more information about the Academy's massage program, please click on Massage under Programs on the upper left side of this page.
The BodyMind Massage and Shiatsu Practitioner Programs make a
powerful combination. They work together to teach you how to
deliver healing touch modalities to those who are called to
work with you. Completing these two programs gives you two of
your required certifications for your Holistic Health
Practitioner Degree. Only one more certifications is required.
You can choose between
