Sandra Fortuna is the dance teachers' teacher. -judged events for Dancing Classrooms, United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Assoc., United States America Dance, World Promotions World Pro/Am Championships, United States Dancesport Championships, America's Ballroom Challenge (PBS) -Fellow in all branches of the National American Dance Teachers Association -VP of USA Dance Chapter 3012 Her dance articles and competition reports on major dance events have appeared in Dance Notes, Dance Beat, Top Line, Dance Week, and other national dance publications. She has been invited to staff dance workshops by the USISTD, Disco America, USADance, dance companies in Florida, Massachussetts and Kansas, various dance schools, many local, international, national dance championships. Sandra Fortuna is the editor of Phil E DanZnewZ, a publication whose purpose is to inform dancers of studio news and events and to raise awareness and provoke thought about dancing and its benefits. Sandra is also editor of the new newsletter for and about wheelchair dancing, Rolling Along... Sandra received the Community Service Award from the National Dance Council of America and is the director of the wheelchair ballroom dancing department for the NDCA. In 2009, Sandra was interviewed extensively for the inspirational six week series, Dancing On Wheels. She did the foxtrot choreography for the runners-up and for the winning couple who went on to represent UK at the 2009 European Wheelchair Dancing Championship. In 2010, she conducted the two day workshops for the dance company, Groovability, while it was taped to create the documentary, The Dancer With the Tiny Legs, for TLC and the Health channel. Her wheelchair dance teachers' manual, Wheel Ease, has been used for the first University wheelchair dance program in the U.S. Her top wheelchair dance couple has won the titles Atlantic Coast Wheelchair Dance Champions and Heart of America Wheelchair Dance Champions and they performed at the Arnold Fitness Expo as part of the dance entertainment. Sandra is a former professional ballet dancer, and holds a BA in Dance from Butler University, Jordan college of Music, and many top teacher awards and pro-am championship titles. Her students have a reputation for acheivement in the dance business. Her dance students include national 10 dance finalists, national amateur Latin runnersup, several successful dance school owners, successful professional candidates for USISTD certification, winners of the DWTS Tour Soft Scrub dance contest, and the popular UK dancer and choreogrpaher, and Star of West End's 2009 production of Burn the Floor, Brian Fortuna. Universal Dance Center, Inc is her school and she co-organized the Philadelphia Festival and Atlantic Coast Championships for over 20 years. |
