We are always getting ready since our group medal level classes work almost exclusively on medal material. Teachers' training class, obviously, is working towards successful exams. Now we are in high gear to practice verbal descriptions, answer questions, explain alignments, describe details of footwork and timing.
Thursday, May 10: Planning to study fellows Latin and practice silver amalgamations.
Last summer, Brian Fortuna, from Philadelphia, "Starred" along with his Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner, Ali Bastian, in a 6 week production of Burn the Floor on London's West End. The cast and "Stars" of this production kept every planned show time (48 shows over 6 weeks) on the calendar. When Burn the Floor came to Philadelphia without any "Stars," two of the four planned shows were cancelled.
"Stars" can make a difference. That's why Britain has the What's On Stage Awards, recognizing and honoring the performers, producers and "Stars" of the shows on London's famous West End Theater District. Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian are one of six nominees for Best Newcomer of the Year. Jason Gilkison, Burn the Floor choreographer, is nominated for Best Choreographer. I am so excited to hear about this. What an honor.
Congratulations and Best Wishes for more performance opportunities for Brian and for Ali in the future. They both have to be respected as very versatile performers! HUGE congratulations to the exceptional abilities and accomplishments of J Gilkison and BTF! Thank you to Jason and his team for promoting the excitement and artistry of ballroom and Latin dancing.
Last August 22, TLC aired the documentary about JoAnne Fluke, the Groovability dancer who invited me to work with her and her dancers on wheelchair dancing last February. Joanne comes across as a warm, exhuberant, loving young woman who is smart, talented and motivated. I thought the show was terrific and I feel honored to have been involved in the special weekend. It has aired several times.
Universal and the Media: ABC news came to the studio to do a story on dance related injuries with regard to all the injuries suffered by the celebrities on DWTS. They used the story on an 11pm news medical report. Here's the link.
