Your Wedding
Ignite a new spark, or fan the flame that has been burning... dancing together is a dream come true. ![]() The bells have finished ringing. Your guests are seated at the reception, the emcee announces you as the new bride and groom, the music begins, and you take the floor for your first dance as Mr. and Mrs... Now what do you do? Sway back and forth til the end of the song or dance with confidence and joy? ![]() This important and exciting day deserves the BEST preparations. Your dance should be appropriate for the occasion, unique and certainly well prepared and thought out. For this you need the experience, expertise and assistance of the professional dance instructors at Universal Dance Center. ![]() Make a decision and a committment to be elegant and polished about every detail, including how you look on the dance floor. Learn a specially choreographed routine to your own choice of music.
What is the first step?
First, choose a special piece of music or a song that expresses your feelings. Our dance experts will choreograph an easy, but beautiful routine that will prepare you to walk onto the floor with confidence.
What if we need help choosing music?
We maintain a growing list of romantic songs and music. We'll be happy to preview some of that music with couples who need assistance choosing music.
How soon should we begin to prepare?
The sooner, the better. Most couples take 6 to 8 lessons to learn the routine and another 4 or 5 lessons to work on details of styling, use of arms, hitting the highlights of the music.
There will be three parts to your dance:
How long does it take?
Naturally, it depends upon many factors:
1-how eleborate you wish the routine to be 2-how much time you can devote to practice 3-how much social dancing you already know 4-how well you know the music and the verse in the piece you select to use for your dance.
What if one of us is disabled?
If one partner is disabled, no problem! We have extensive experience in developing dance routines for special presentations, including weddings. We can show you video examples of our wheelchair dancers and their aboe-bodied partners dancing together.
Why would we prepare a special dance?
When you are prepared, you can avoid the tension and anxiety of being on display and feeling unsure of what exactly to do. Your wedding and reception are normally the most formal events in your new life together. Naturally, you will want everything to be be special and perfect. In years to come, you will want to remember the joy and spirit of every moment. If you decide to "wing it" you decide to take a chance that your dance turns into a low point of your reception. Your first dance together as a married couple is important. You deserve to remember it with a feeling of happiness. That only happens when you are prepared. We can help you do that.
What is the cost?
Six lessons is the average amount of time couples use to prepare. Some take less, some take more, some do more just to be sure they feel ready. A six lesson course is $470.
How many newly weds do this sort of thing?
One of our instructors currently (as of July 25, 2004) has 6 couples preparing for their first dance as Mr and Mrs. Three are not total beginners, one is a couple brand new to dancing, two are disabled dancers with able-bodied partners.
How about an example?
