thanks Woodlands Market owner Don Santa for sponsoring the The Volunteer
of the Year award at the 16th annual Heart of Marin
Awards. |
Since it was opened in 1986, Woodlands Market
has chosen to
contribute to local nonprofit organizations the portion of its revenues
that grocery stores traditionally spend on advertising. This has meant
“investments” totaling more than $2.3 million, with the most significant
share of the funds going to local public schools in the Ross Valley.
Woodlands Market founder Don Santa, speaking on behalf of the Santa
Family, said, “I use the term ‘investment’ because while we certainly
continue to invest in the business of Woodlands Market in order to
provide our customers with a store that meets all of their needs, we
also invest money directly back into our community.”
Additionally, the Santas provided facilities and in-kind contributions to events that
raised more than $300,000 for local nonprofit organizations in 2008. In
2009, Woodlands Market will again host its annual barbeque to benefit
the Kentfield Schools Foundation. |
